India Festivals in December 2018



Hornbill Festival (Dec. 1 to Dec. 12, 2018) - The Hornbill festival is celebrated in Nagaland, mainly in a village called Kisama, near the capital city, Kohima. One of the largest festivals of the state, the festival includes  traditional music, dance, exhibitions of handicrafts and games.

Feast of Francis Xavier (December 3, 2018) - This annual festival celebration take place at  Panaji in Goa, is in honour of St. Francis Xavier. He was a Christian missionary and his body was mummified in a casket at the Bom Jesus Basilica in Old Goa. There is a morning mass , along with the feast, a large fair is also held.

Galdan Namchot (Dec. 2, 2018) - This festival is celebrated as the birthday of Tsongkhapa, a Tibetan saint and scholar. Tsongkhapa was the founder of Gelukpa School.  The school helped  preaching Tibetan Buddhism during the 14th century. Celebrated in Ladakh, people prepare all kinds of traditional dishes during this time, also welcome the New Year.

Perumthitta Tharavad Kottamkuzhy (Dec. 7 to Dec. 16, 2018) - This is an annual ten-day Theyyam festival , one of the most important ritual art forms of Kerala.

Christmas (December 25, 2018) -In India, Christmas is celebrated with great enthusiasm irrespective of caste, creed and religion. The celebrations include special mass,  fetes, gatherings, and exchanging of gifts.

Sunburn (Dec. 29- 31, 2018) - Goa's Sunburn is Asia's one of the most wonderful Electronic music dance festival.   

The Winter Festival at Mount Abu (Dec. 29 - Dec. 31, 2018) – The organisers of the festival are Rajasthan Tourism and Municipal Board.  Winter Festival at Mount Abu take place during the last week of December. The festival celebrations include a procession to the Nakki Lake on the first day, traditional dancing, fairs, concerts, and a firework display.
